Divisionals and Invitationals
Divisionals and Invitationals
Good evening, everyone!
We want to acquaint everyone to several different types of swim meets for our league, (North West Aquatic League, or NWAL) in the coming weeks: Divisionals and Invitationals (this year we are participating in Pentathlon, Red White & Blue, and Ponderosa)
First off: Divisionals (also known as our Divisional Championship). What are the requirements to swim at Divisionals? What else do I need to know?
- Your swimmer must have two "Splashes" this season, meaning they participated in at least two dual meets (Time Trials does not count as a "Splash")
- We want everyone that *can* participate, to participate! It is an excellent opportunity to get to swim in a great indoor natatorium with a large crowd cheering everyone on!
- We will compete against each of the teams in our division that we swam against in the dual meets
Invitationals: these meets are a little different because there are time standards that dictate eligibility.
Pentathlon: Sunday, June 9th. Klein Collins High School natatorium. Cost $40. Each swimmer is required to swim 5 races: each of the primary strokes plus a 100 IM.
Eligibility is determined by adding up best times for each of these strokes. A Time Trial time counts for this meet. If your swimmer hasn't swam a 100 IM in a meet yet, the coaches can get a time for them if they are interested in participating in Pentathalon. Ribbons are awarded for each event and other awards, such as the Youngest Pentathlete, are given as well. It's a fun meet! Times achieved at this meet count toward end of season invitationals as well.
Red, White, & Blue:
June 21st, 22nd, & 23rd. It's being held at the Fleet Aquatic Center this year. There are two sets of time standards, Red and Blue. Medals are awarded for each event 1st through 8th place, for each age and stroke, and both Red and Blue groups, so there are a LOT of possible medals to be awarded! Your swimmer won't swim every day of this meet. The sessions are divided by age and stroke. Entry fees are based on number of races your child is swimming.
Ponderosa Invitational: June 22nd and June 23rd. Cy-Fair Natatorim. This meet has the most competitive time standards. These are the fastest kids from over 100 NWAL teams! Ponderosa has a Prelims/Finals format, so the top 16 swimmers from each event in the morning return in the evening and swim again for finals. Entry fees are based on the number of races.
Each of these meets are open for entry on our website (the green RSVP boxes). If you want more information, or aren't sure whether your swimmer qualifies you can read through the meet announcements/Time standards attached to this email.
We will need to know of your interest in participating in Pentathlon THIS WEEK to make sure we have time to determine eligibility and/or run a Time Trial for the 100 IM for our younger swimmers.
If you have any questions about Divisionals or Invitationals, feel free to reply to this email and I'll do my best to either answer your questions, or find someone who can!
See you at the pool!
