Volunteering

At Deerfield we have NO VOLUNTEER DEPOSIT REQUIRED which is rare throughout the league.

We like to think it's because we have the best volunteers!

The Deerfield Village Swim Team is a completely Volunteer-run organization and family activity and we need both swimmers and their families involved to ensure that meets run smoothly and that we are promoting a healthy community.

It is the DVST policy for the 2023 Season for each family to complete a minimum of 4 Volunteer Shifts, with at least ONE being either a Timer or Scribe Shift.

A minimum number of shifts (4) must be selected the "Volunteering" part of Registration in order to complete registration.

Though we do not currently require a volunteer deposit, DVST reserves the right to assess a financial penalty if Volunteer requirements are not met. Assessments must be paid prior to the 2024 Season in order to be allowed to register.

Deerfield is recognized as one of the premier hosts throughout NWAL and it’s all because of our volunteers. No experience is needed as we’ll train you on the job.

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

Parent Supervisor--Perfect for the new swim team parent! Supervise one age group of kids for one shift during the meet. This person keeps track of kids and marks them with their assigned races. You will also walk them to the ready bench to make sure they don't miss their race. 10 & Under only.

Concessions--Sell concessions at home meets.

Meat Masters--Grill burgers, chicken and sausage for concessions.

Timer--Get front row seats to the meet! Time swimmers in an assigned lane. There are three timers per lane so it is a group effort and very easy to learn.

Scribe--Sit in a chair (often under a shaded tent) and document the times from the timers.

Official--For the more seasoned parent, learn to officiate the meet. Requires class attendance.

Ready Bench-- Escorts swimmers from the ready bench to the On Deck person

On Deck--Receives the swimmers from the ready bench and lines the swimmers up behind the starting blocks including ensuring the correct order for relays.

Ribbon Writer--Sits in the air conditioned clubhouse with a view of the pool and assembles the ribbons for the swimmers.

Hospitality--Keeps officials and poolside volunteers hydrated with refreshments.

Tear Down--Everyone is expected to help pitch in for tear down and cleanup at the end of each meet.

HOW DO I VOLUNTEER??

During registration, you will be asked to choose the meets and volunteer shifts you would like to have.  As we get closer to the meets, sign-ups will be open online in order for people to pick up extra shifts as needed.

YES!! ITS THAT SIMPLE!

Saturday Morning at the beginning of the meet, the volunteer coordinator will have a sign in table for volunteers.

If for some reason you cannot make your shift, you will need to contact the volunteer coordinator as soon as possible.  Please tell us your name and what shift/location you had signed up for so we can attempt to recruit for the role.
